Job Search Using the Web to Succeed

Commercial Markets, Making Money, Market Brands

A modern job search campaign is by nature often intricate. While the internet has offered a variety of new channels, it also creates increased competition for choice jobs and potential challenges for job hunters.

Job hunting needs to be thought of as a highly personal, highly aimed marketing process where you are the product. Your resume is an advertisement. Your extended network of contacts is your source for information.

So where does the internet fit in? At AA-Careers, we just posted a job on Craigslist and got over 600 applications in a week. For a single opening. That’s increased job hunting competition.

Had a great candidiate gotten ahold of us before we posted the ad, they could have landed the job prior to having all that competition. How? By finding an employee at our company who became aware of the job prior to posting. Everyone knew of the job for at least 11 days before it was posted. Who in your network might know of a job that’s coming available soon?

Be careful to check your application materials thoroughly before submitting them. When we did an analysis of the 650 resumes, we found a large number of errors. 63% of the applicants were easily removed with a quick triage process. How? The same way any hiring manager would. By passing over resumes where the objective didn’t match our job description. By passing over prospects whose cover letters gave us grounds not to engage them, like "I know I’m overqualified but I really need a job". By eliminating prospects whose documents that didn’t open properly. And by eliminating prospects who didn’t bother to spell check their cover letter and/or resume.

So the good news is that job sites give you a feel of what companies are hiring, and for what kinds of jobs. But once those jobs are posted, the competition is intense. You can still try, if you have a well honed resume, designed to appeal directly and clearly to the recruiter. And if you have practiced interviewing – so you don’t stumble at a critical point.

Another thing to be aware of is how easily you can be checked on on the web. As we Googled several job hunters, we ran into some MySpace comments that were in questionable taste. Nothing illegal, but enough to sway our thoughts about who to hire.

AA-Careers provides a encompassing set of services for Bay Area job seekers, providing our clients a personal career consultant, a managed job hunting campaign, modern tools like a personal website, video, highly targeted resume, and much more. Let us know if we can help you.

Be careful out there, and good hunting!

Passing the After-Sales Test

Commercial Markets

Some time ago a major UK food retailer decided to branch out into non-foods. Well, they all do it now, but in those days it was unheard of. Alongside the fruit and vegetables, meat and tinned foods they sold refrigerators that they had purchased at very low cost from an eastern European company (these were the days when East and West Europe rarely traded with each other).

These fridges were very cheap - and they worked! The retailer passed on much of this low cost to grateful customers who purchased them in great numbers.

What the retailer didn’t consider was that fridges - unlike tins of beans - occasionally need spare parts. They sometimes breakdown or are damaged. What the retailer forgot was AFTER SALES.

It was entirely understandable the customers would make the assumption that the retailer would have this in hand. Trouble is, they didn’t. The parts - and the engineers who knew who to fit them - were in Poland. So, to many customers, what seemed like a bargain turned out to be a problem. This retailer is now very successfully selling non-food goods alongside food products and I am sure they did the decent thing by refunding their disgruntled fridge customers of many years ago.

Not all companies are so good with their customers. Some will sell products as a one-off transaction and will not be interested in what happens from the moment the product has been sold. “We don’t do repairs and we don’t sell spare parts. Contact the manufacturer.” This is not a lot of good if you live in the U.S. and the manufacturer is in Shanghai, for example.

Of course, some products and are not designed to be repaired or refurbished. The manufacturers simply expect them to be thrown away at the end of their life, even if that life is relatively short. An example is the microwave oven. Who fixes yours? Nobody, I suspect. They are usually repairable, but rarely is one ever repaired. No, they just end up in landfill alongside many other goods that are also thrown away rather than “made good”. No wonder many countries around the world are introducing legislation to limit the extent to which such goods can be tossed away so casually.

So, next time you are considering a purchase, especially the purchase of an expensive product or a mechanical product, consider the following tests:

1. Is it built to last?
2. Does it come with a guarantee?
3. Is there evidence of the product’s durability?
4. Is it designed to be repaired?
5. Are spare parts available?

Remember also, that repair is better for the environment than replacement. Of course, old products do need to be replaced eventually, but why replace prematurely just because you have purchased a product that failed the tests above?

One group of products that pass these tests with flying colors is Insect-o-Cutor Fly Killers. Have a look at www.flykiller.net and you will see them there.

Let’s put them to the above tests:

1. Insectocutor Fly Killers are made of steel. Their solid construction is one of their best selling points.

2. They come with a 5-year guarantee

3. Go to any restaurant or commercial kitchen and you will see Insectocutor fly killers that have been there for 20 years - and still going strong!

4. Insectocutor fly killers are constructed in a logical way making repairs straightforward. Insectocutor also provides support for repairs.

5. Insect-o-Cutor sells a range of spare parts for all of their fly killers - even for models that are no longer in production. And their best UK distributor, Arkay Hygiene - at www.eeeee.co.uk - is always happy to provide these spares as well as replacement u.v. lamps and glueboards

After sales is just as much about the customer as it is about the product. Making a sale is not the end, it is just the beginning. Insect-o-cutor is a good example of a company that demonstrates its concern for it customers through the long-term support offered for its range of products. Just think on that one when you are next down the municipal dump with your broken down microwave!

Fly Killer machines can be seen at http://www.flykiller.net,
including spares, lamps and glueboards.

Integrating Bricks and Mortar with eCommerce

Commercial Markets

Today’s shopper expects convenience. Brands that integrate sales channels for consumer research and purchasing will increase repeat purchase rates and achieve higher levels of customer satisfaction.

In any multi-channel retail consumer interaction, traffic or sales are being driven from one channel to the other. In these “web-to-store” or “store-to-web” situations, the limitations of one channel are mitigated by the strengths of the other.

In-store Pickup

In-store pickup is a process that allows your customers to order online and pickup in your physical store. During the process, communication with the customer primarily happens via email and instructs the shopper of the steps necessary to complete the transaction. In most cases, the order is fulfilled at the “brick and mortar” store the same business day the order is placed online, with best practices showing most orders filled within a 2 hour period.

The primary value to consumers is that they receive their items almost immediately after purchasing. By using in-store pickup, consumers pick up their merchandise at a special designated area, thereby avoiding heavy crowds at the checkout counter. This is a core reason why in-store pickup is so popular during the holiday season, when last-minute ordering is often done online.

The consumer also benefits from not having to pay shipping costs. Sometimes the $6 to $10 dollars associated with shipping a product can be a critical factor to cart abandonment, and in-store pickup reduces this risk.

The retail business also benefits from the incremental purchases that are made when a customer goes to the physical store to pick up online purchases. In an internal study, multi-channel retailer REI reports that 1/3 of all customers who buy online and pickup at the store make another purchase while there, with a spend average of $90.00 (Puget Sound Business Journal).

From a technology perspective, in-store pickup needs to have some level of inventory integration to work effectively. The integration of data is critical in being able to display to the consumer the availability of products at their closest geographic store.

After a user selects the “in-store pickup” option, and enters their zip code, the system needs to cross-reference available store-level inventory data to ensure that the product is available within an acceptable distance. This inventory accuracy is crucial to deliver a great shopping experience.

Integration does not have to work in real time, but needs to execute multiple data checks throughout the day. Work your in-store pickup product availability based upon thresholds. For example, once an inventory level reaches 3 in a store location, do not display as available for in-store pickup. In-store pickup should not be executed for all products. Focus on products with high shipping costs and products that a consumer would typically want immediately.

In-Store Returns

Returning a product purchased online can be an extremely frustrating experience. Between figuring out if the retailer will pay for the shipping, waiting in line at the post office, and finally playing the waiting game for a product refund, the returns process is known for giving consumers headaches.

Accepting online product returns in a physical store is a tactic to make the returns experience pleasant and easier for the customer. By messaging an in-store returns option within the homepage, product page, and potentially within the shopping cart, a retailer reduces consumer purchase hesitation and will likely drive conversion improvement. Again, the transaction is immediate with no waiting involved.

Similar to in-store pickup, in-store returns generate incremental in-store purchases. After receiving their refund, consumers frequently shop for and purchase additional items while in the store. These actions can lead to order values that are actually greater than the initial online purchase, and drive higher lifetime consumer value.

The key to executing in-store returns is to have order management from the web and the physical stores driven from the same database. By providing the in-store associate the ability to look up information based upon order numbers on the packing slip, the process can be verified and the transaction can be closed by the associate.

Emailed In-Store Coupons and Promotions

Email is predominantly used as a mechanism to drive webstore promotions. Recently however, multi-channel businesses are realizing the value of emailing “in-store” or hybrid type promotions to their house lists.

“In-store” email promotions allow the consumer to print an email promotion (say $25.00 off a $150.00 purchase) and have it accepted at the retail store. For businesses that want to further track multi-channel purchasing, consider generating unique barcodes for each email that provide added levels of insight and security.

Hybrid emails allow promotions to be leveraged in-store and online via a purchase code. Again, by giving the consumer the ability to choose how they want to utilize the promotion, a retailer builds a stronger service connection with the shopper.

Store Locator

Now standard among eCommerce stores, a store locator function must be able to find the closest stores based upon zip code, while providing door to door directions online. If you have a physical store network but do not provide store locator functionality, you are dramatically behind the innovation curve.

All of these initiatives are geared toward achieving one objective - communicating and service of customers in the manner for which the customer chooses.

Why You Should Promote Residual Affiliate Marketing

Commercial Markets

If you’re seriously interested in knowing about Affiliate Programs, you need to think beyond the basics. This informative article takes a closer look at things you need to know about Affiliate Programs.

Are you a webmaster in need of additional income? Or are you planning to set up an online business but you still don’t have any product to sell? If so, affiliate marketing may be the best solution for your problems. With affiliate marketing, you won’t need to worry about the products you have to sell. All you need to have is a website with sufficient contents that are related to the products of a certain online company offering affiliate programs. By becoming a member of the program, or by becoming an affiliate, you can start earning a certain amount of money right away!

Affiliate marketing is some sort of business relationship established between a merchant and his affiliates. In affiliate marketing, an affiliate agrees to direct some traffic to a merchant’s website. If that traffic is converted into some kind of action, like a visitor purchasing a product on the merchant’s website or a visitor becoming a lead for the company, the affiliate who directed the traffic will be compensated. Compensation may take the form of either a percentage sales commission for the sales generated or a fixed fee predetermined upon the application of the affiliate on the merchant’s affiliate program.

Promising a lot of benefits both for the merchants and the affiliates, affiliate marketing has become one of the most popular online marketing methods today. In fact, almost every merchant or retailer site today offers an affiliate program that any one can join into. Most retailers would entice people to become affiliates or members of their program by promising great benefits like large commissions, lifetime commissions, click through incomes and a lot of other benefits. But would all these affiliate programs bring off the same benefits?

Most affiliate programs would pay you, as an affiliate, a one-time commission for every sale or lead you brought to the merchant’s website. Commissions for this kind of affiliate programs are usually large, ranging from 15% to a high of about 60%. Other affiliate programs would pay you a fixed fee for every click through or traffic you send to the merchant’s site. Programs like this often pay a smaller fee for every click through, usually not getting any larger than half a dollar. The good thing about this kind of program, however, is that the visitor won’t have to purchase anything in order for the affiliate to get compensated.

Another type of affiliate program is the residual income affiliate program. Residual affiliate programs usually pay only a small percentage of sales commission for every sale directed by the affiliate to the merchant’s site. This commission often comes only in the range of 10% to 20% sales commission. Because of this, many people ignore residual affiliate program and would rather opt for the high paying one-time commission affiliate program. Are these people making a mistake, or are they making the right decision?

How can you put a limit on learning more? The next section may contain that one little bit of wisdom that changes everything.

We can’t tell, for sure, if people are making a mistake by choosing a high paying one-time commission affiliate program. But we can definitely say that they are making a large mistake if they ignore residual affiliate programs. Residual affiliate programs would indeed pay at a lower rate, but merchants offering such kind of programs would generally pay you regular and ongoing commissions for a single affiliate initiated sale! That means, for the same effort you made in promoting a particular affiliate program, you get paid only once in a one-time commission program, and a regular and ongoing commission for a residual program!

So, are the benefits of promoting residual affiliate programs clearer to you now? Or are they still vague? If they are still vague, then let’s make them a bit clearer with this example.

Suppose there are two online merchants both offering web hosting services on their sites. The first merchant offers a one-time commission type of affiliate program that pays $80 for every single affiliate initiated sale. The second merchant also offers an affiliate program, but this time a residual affiliate program that pays only $10 for every single affiliate initiated sale. As an affiliate, we may get attracted at once at what the first merchant is offering, as $80 is definitely a lot larger than $10. But by thinking things over before actually getting into them, one may be able to see that the second merchant is offering us more opportunity to earn a larger amount of money.

Supposed you have directed traffic to the merchant and it converted into a sale, you’ll get paid once by the first merchant for the sale you have initiated. But with the second merchant, you’ll get paid monthly for as long as the customer you have referred to the merchant continues to avail of the web hosting service. That means that for the same effort of getting one customer to avail of the merchant’s service, you get paid monthly in residual affiliate programs while you only get paid once in a one-time commission type of affiliate programs.

So, are residual affiliate programs worth promoting? Definitely yes, because you virtually get more money from these types of affiliate programs in the long run! And would residual affiliate programs work best for you? Probably not, probably yes. It is not really for me to tell. But with the benefits that residual affiliate marketing can provide, it would really be unwise to ignore such programs.

Now you can be a confident expert on Affiliate Programs. OK, maybe not an expert. But you should have something to bring to the table next time you join a discussion on Affiliate Programs. Click http://www.article-ecommerce.com/
