Net Zero - Maybe The Right ISP For You

Lots Of Web Resources

Is Net Zero the right internet service provider for you and your family? The best of anything is always the one that works best for you and your family. When choosing an ISP, the same is true and you really should look at varying number of plans and companies. However, one of those that you should certainly consider is Net Zero.

Net Zero is an ISP that expands over the entire United States. They currently offer three dial-up internet access plans that are designed to accommodate those of varying budgets and needs. By offering varying plans at varying prices, Net Zero should warrant at least a look from you if you are in the market for an affordable dial up ISP.

If you do take a look at Net Zero and other providers and end up deciding that Net Zero is going to be the one for you, then you will see that getting started is not hard. You can go to the Net Zero website where there is a Net Zero store. Click on the plan you want and then go to check out. It is really that easy, as simple as buying anything else on line. You will just need to make sure you have a credit card and your billing information ready to fill out during the check out and registration process.

How fast you will be able to start your Net Zero internet service will be based on which method of software download you go with. If you decide to download the software from the Net Zero website, then you can start right away with your new username and password. If, on the other hand, you opt to have a CD with the software sent to your house for download, then you are probably looking at about 5 to 10 days before the CD arrives and you are able to download the software. With internet access, your Net Zero services like email are available immediately as well.

You may have trouble signing up for Net Zero internet service on the web. Maybe you don’t have internet access at all which is why you are looking at using Net Zero as your ISP. If either of those is the case, you can still sign up. Net Zero offers a toll free phone number you can call to sign up. The process works the same, except that you obviously cannot just download the necessary software. Instead, you will have to wait the 5 to 10 days for the CD to arrive in the mail.

Choosing the right ISP for you and your family can be difficult. There are a lot of options out there. However, take some time and look around, but be sure to check out Net Zero along the way. With affordable prices, fast startup, and easy purchasing, Net Zero might just be the one for you.

Make it Clear What Your Website is About

Lots Of Web Resources

Just about every list of the “Top 10 Web Design Mistakes” includes at least one reference to either

1. Not clearly specifying the objectives of your website, or

2. Not making it obvious what your web pages are about.

Usually both of these things are mentioned. This usually stems from the inability to look at your business or products from the prospective customer’s point of view.

Many marketing people confuse their own concerns with those of their potential customers. For instance they think that a sexy manufacturing technique, or the fact that the product uses “materials developed by NASA” will impress their customers. Generally it won’t.

This is the classic mistake of confusing features with benefits. Saying that a vinyl banner is made of 13 oz vinyl is a feature. Saying that it is “virtually tear-proof” is a benefit — namely, that it won’t be ripped off its moorings and blown away by the first gentle breeze.

Web designers are just like all other business people in this regard. We have a difficult time stepping back from our little projects and looking at them from the perspective of our potential customers.

First and foremost we should realize that people who visit our sites have no idea what our sites are about until we tell them.

So we should tell them. And we should tell them very clearly and quickly. As Vincent Flanders says in Web Pages That Suck

Web design is the reverse of a magic trick. In a magic trick, you show the audience your right hand and perform the trick with your left. In Web design, you tell them where you’re going first — and then go there. People don’t like surprises. It will certainly confuse them and it could make them angry.”

Finding Good Hosting Services

Lots Of Web Resources

Many people in this internet-era are having great difficulty
finding hosting services for there internet business that are
both cheap and reliable. They have questions like: How to choose
one? How do I know one is good?

It is not as easy task finding the right hosting, but there are
some general guides on what a good service is like. For example:

* General professionalism on their website

* Help is available within 30 minutes 24/7

* Their Team Size? Remember, bigger might not be better.

* Also, you must remember that cheaper is not necessarily better
either, as there is a lot of scamming going on hosting business
and competition is very fierce.

Someone offering unlimited bandwidth, a huge hard drive quota or
something similar which has a clear cost for the provider, is
more likely offering you an unstable, or even a scam service.
Look for those who tell you that they allocate resources, so
that they never oversell even if their all customers would be
using everything offered to them. These kind of providers are
more likely to be very high quality, thus usually the price is a
little bit higher, but you can expect more from them in terms of
support, stability & performance. And not to mention REAL
value-for-money.

The 3 most important factors you must look for in a hosting
service, if your website is to succeed, are: Stability, Support
response time & how they respond, and the performance of the
service.

Performance is tertiary. Why, you ask? Because stability is the
most important factor. You don’t want to be loosing business
because your site is not available most of the time, do you?
Support comes second because crashes do happen, problems DO
occur, and response time of support team is VERY important here.

And, you may value such things as one-man companies, because
you know that they are very likely to be able to provide 24/7
help and support, and will also offer a higher quality service,
because they can put more time into their customers. They value
all their customers because they know who is paying, and who
deserves what they are paying for, instead of some half-baked
scam service that is wasting both the customers time and money.

Think about how good it would be if he or she support
technician even gave you their personal phone number for you to
contact them if problems occur, and never charge a dime for
using it! Talk about service! This will both reduce your
down-time, and any business losses incurred because of this. In
fact, artichost.net provides 24/7 LIVE support for all its
customers, and will surely be in the running this year to win
awards for Best-Service or the like!!

When looking left or right is not anymore safe.

Lots Of Web Resources

Take a look at this scene: A woman crossing the street, looking
to her left then to her right. She was on her way crossing the
street, when a car, careening at top speed down the street, hit
her then went on its way, leaving the blooded woman sprawled on
the street, dead. Or this: A man hastily crossing the street
suddenly slipped and fell, in the way of an incoming vehicle. He
got hit, went flying a few feet, then landed, battered but
alive, on the pavement, while the driver of the vehicle rushed
over and try to get help… These two scenarios are just some
examples of accidents that happen simply by crossing the street.
This is what is called pedestrian accidents. Road accidents
involving pedestrians account for more deaths and casualties in
the streets worldwide. In most cases, these pedestrians end up
dead or suffering serious injuries and damage when they get into
this kind of accident. Negligent and dangerous drivers are the
most commonly pointed causes of these accidents. The victims
either get hospitalization and money benefits are the usual
claims the victim gets. Sometimes these are not enough to
sustain for them. The most common casualties endured in these
accidents are brain injuries, bone fractures, paralysis and coma
and not to mention, death. Some pedestrians blame themselves for
getting into the accident in the first place. They feel that it
was their fault that they got hit by the vehicle. This is the
usual reaction that the victims have because they do not want
any further questions about what had happened. Some are even
willing to just settle for an amount agreed by both parties.
There are certain factors to be considered that may have led to
the accident. The more obvious one is the part of the driver.
Even though the fault is not entirely by them, it is still
considered negligence on their part. Other factors are the kind
of environment on which the accident occurred. It may be that
the street already has many faults defects, or the strategical
location of the event. Victims of these accidents tend to just
forget all about it once they have been given financial and
other kind of support. One thing they usually do not do is seek
professional assistance on persons that are experts on this
field. Getting the right legal advice would bring answers to
many questions the victim tend to forget about. It is only fair
that the right kind of action and solution to this problem
should be done in these cases. Because people are not anymore
safe, much so, as long as they are pedestrians.

How to get TRAFFIC on your new site

Lots Of Web Resources

You’re all pumped up! You’ve been working hard on a new layout
and have tons of ideas and wonderful miracles to show the online
world. One problem, how do you let people know you exist?

When I first started Pixel2life.com back in January 2004, I
already had a large amount of friends in the gaming community
that I knew would visit my site to check it out, but I wanted to
get a targeted audience of visitors. People that would be
interested in the content I had to offer them. I love my friends
in the gaming community (some of which I’ve known for over 6
years), but only a small portion of them really cared about
design. So through trial and error, I’ve found ways to increase
my traffic by targeting the proper audience without having to
pay for it. These methods don’t compare to buying targeted
traffic, but it’s the next best thing. P2L is not a profit
oriented website, so I don’t exactly have tons of cash to spend
on Ad campaigns.

First off, I must stress the importance of a quality design and
quality content. You can draw as much traffic as you want, but
without a quality website that will interest your guests, you’ll
never make it to their coveted Bookmarks. In the case of design
oriented websites for example, there are millions of personal
websites that have a few wallpapers, a personal portfolio a
shoutbox , and loads of spelling errors. What makes your site
better than the rest that would warrant someone to re-visit? Be
original, provide quality content, and update often. It’s that
simple. If you’re not willing to commit to those rules, don’t
bother trying to be the next DeadDreamer or Shiver7. I may write
an article in the future regarding this topic in a bit more
detail, but for now, I’ll assume your site is a smoking gun and
ready for the eyes of the world.

Before you start anything, optimize your site for search
engines. You should have a title, meta keys for keywords and
description, and nice full sentences in the body of your site.
Keyword density is important and with proper SEO techniques,
hits from search engines will grow quite a bit. Make sure you
customize each page as required. A page about 3D Modeling should
not have the same keywords as a page about your graphic
portfolio. And remember to include the main keyword(s) in your
title. If you’re not sure what exactly to do, check out these
results on Google for keyword optimization:
http://www.google.ca/search?q=keyword+optimization&ie=UTF-8&hl=en
&meta=

For Pixel2life.com, our first month of operation (January 2004)
yielded about 200 hits from Google. After spending a week or so
correcting my lack of meta keys and keyword density, I received
well over 28000 hits from Google in June. This isn’t simply
because I worked the keywords, but it had a large hand in it.
The other part of the puzzle is reciprocating links.

Now I don’t work for an SEO, nor do I pretend to be an expert in
the field, but in my experience, the more reciprocating links to
Pixel2life.com on other websites, the higher my Google ranking
climbs. In some of my main keywords, I wasn’t even in the top
1000, but after a few months of affiliating and spreading the
word, I place in the top 5 in many principal keyword searches.
Examples include:

http://www.google.ca/search?q=cinema+4d+tutorials&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&
meta=
http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=swift+3d+tutorials&m
eta=
http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=photopaint+tutorials
&meta=

You can check your google rankings for your choice of keywords
at http://www.googlerankings.com

AFFILIATE! It’s important to affiliate and get the word around
about your site. Do a search on Google for sites similar to your
own or have something to do with the topic your site is about
and ask the webmaster if they would like to exchange 88×31 pixel
banners or text links. If you have a good site, then many
webmasters won’t care about your traffic, because they know it
will climb in fairly short order if your site is obviously a
quality link. I have affiliated with many sites that do not get
the same traffic as I do because I love their site and I think
my visitors will enjoy it too. So don’t be shy - just ask! It’s
not like they’re going to sue you for asking. The worst that
will happen is you won’t get a response or you’ll be declined.
I’ve been declined many times… it doesn’t hurt, trust me. Don’t
send a generic cut and paste email to the webmaster either. Send
an email addressed to them personally and let them know you’ve
actually checked out their site and why you think you could
mutually benefit from exchanging links. Be polite, check your
spelling and make sure you send them your details including a
short description of your site, current traffic, URL and how you
can be reached.

So, affiliation is extremely important. Not only will the
visitors of an affiliate see and possibly visit your link, but
you’ll increase your search engine ranking as well.

SOTM, SOTW features! There are tons of websites (Pixel2life.com
included) that have a featured Site of the Month or Site of the
Week section, usually on the main page. This is a great way to
get some free exposure, assuming you have a site that would earn
this kind of regard. If you’ve got quality, there’s no reason
why you shouldn’t win a few of these features. How to find them?
Easy as pie! Get on Google and do a search for any of the
following:

“Site of the week” “Site of the week” subject* “Site of the
Month” “Site of the Month” subject*

* Customize subject with whatever your site is about - like
graphics or programming etc…

Here’s a little cheat for you… I won Site of the Week at FTP
Planet (http://www.ftpplanet.com) and received 3000 unique
visitors the day it was posted in their newsletter, and I still
get hits from the archived link. You can post your entry at
http://www.ftpplanet.com/cgi/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&f
orum=Your+Web+Site&number=10&DaysPrune=1000&LastLogin=

Innocent advertising is a non-obtrusive way to plug your site IF
you do it properly. Check out http://www.big-boards.com for
large forums that are in line with your interests. Sign up and
check the signature guidelines… staying within the guidelines,
plug your site in your sig and start posting! Now, here’s the
catch… post relevant information to the forum and genuinely
contribute to discussions. Don’t just fly on there and start
plugging your site or you’ll probably get banned. Just go shoot
the shit with the forumites and let your sig do the rest. This
is guaranteed to get you additional traffic. Same thing with
every place you would leave a signature. Email, forums, blogs,
newsgroups etc… but actually post something worth reading,
otherwise you’re just another spamming asshat.

The bottom line is that you need to get involved in the
community that your site revolves around. Talk to people, learn
about your community and make adjustments as you go. There’s no
such thing as a free lunch, so you have to work at it. The
harder you work at it, the better the results. You’re not paying
for anything money-wise, but you will be spending quite a bit of
time in front of the screen, especially at first.

Sign your work! If you create wallpapers or post photography
(YOUR photography) sign your work with your website address. If
people like what they see, they know where to go for more.

Tell a friend script, and a newsletter is also important (Yeah,
I know I haven’t got one, but we’re working on it). Tell a
Friend is a little script that allows a visitor to send a
pre-made email to someone he or she knows that tells them about
your website. The person just types in the email address they
want the notice to go to and click submit. This is a nice simple
way for your guests to share your site with others if they like
it enough and want to share their find :)
A newsletter is a great reminder tool to previous visitors to
come check out your site for new features and content. Many of
your visitors will visit your site and forget about it, even if
they really enjoyed their first look. This is natural and a
common internet fact. By keeping an opt-in newsletter, you can
send a monthly email to anyone that has joined the list and that
will remind those “one night stand” people that you’re still
around and the site is better than ever.

Well, that’s about it for the time being, I hope this helps you
get your new site off the ground, or lift your old site even
higher. Feel free to post your own traffic grabbing suggestions
or comment on the pointers in my article.

Remember, be polite, be personal, get to the point, and don’t be
shy. If your site has quality content updated on a regular
basis, there’s no reason why you should feel intimidated when
trying to share it with others. Just don’t spam and annoy
people, and you’ll be amazed at what happens over the next few
months.

All the best, Faken

Promotion and Web Design Tips

Lots Of Web Resources

This article gives free tips on how to find a cheap web designer
and free tips on website promotion.

Cheap web design services.

You do not have to spend thousands of pounds to have an internet
prescence. In my opinion you should only have to pay between £50
and £100 to have a website built. The websites at the bottom of
this page only cost me £42.50 each! The amount of competition in
the internet web design sector means that there are some great
deals available.

You can find these cheap web design companies by looking on
internet auction websites, internet search engines or in the
Yellow Pages.

Website promotion free tips.

Everyone would like an increase in traffic to their website or
an increase in their PR rating. In general the higher the page
rank you have the more visitors you are likely to get.

To increase this page rank it is important to build up the
number of backward links your website has. You can do this by
e-mailing other websites preferably in the same business sector
as your own and asking if they would be willing to swap links
with your site.

Writing articles like the one you are reading here is another
way of obtaining backward links. By submitting these articles to
article websites, other webmasters are then able to use your
article on their website, thus giving you an extra link. This is
because you are able to add your information and web address in
the author bio at the bottom of the page.

You may also want to consider google adwords. This is a form of
pay per click where you pay to appear on the right side of the
search results in the paid advertising section of the google
search engine for a specific key phrase. Always remember not to
spend more on the advertising than you are likely to earn from
the website.

If you would like to earn extra money from your website you may
want to consider google adsense. This is where google put ads
onto your website. When your visitors click on the ads you get
paid.

How to Publish Your Book

Lots Of Web Resources

Copyright 2006 John Piper

I have now had four books published and this is my story.

I had never actually planned to write a book but I had been
trading stock markets for many years and in 1998 was approached
by the Financial Times Pitman Publishing Company to write a book
about my methods. This book went on to be a best seller!

In my naivety I thought this was my ticket to writing glory and
I thought I would have no problem when it came to my next book.
How wrong I was. It was the same turgid round of letters to
agents and publishers followed by a rash of rejection slips -
how the mighty are fallen!!

This is when I realised an important truth. There are two solid
reasons why it is much better to self-publish:

1.The chances of finding an agent or a publisher are slim.
Unless you are a Z class celebrity in which case you should have
no problem!

2.More importantly you make more money when you self-publish.

Here are the three stages I went through: 1.My book was
commissioned by established publishers and they sold 5000 copies
- I got £5000 (around $8500).

2.I teamed up with a web site designer and internet marketing
man and we sold 5000 copies - I got £20,000 (around $34,000) - a
big difference!

3.I now do the web design and marketing myself - now I get 100%!

Let me put this in perspective. The established publishers sold
5000 copies but I did a fair bit of that selling - at one speech
I gave we sold 100 copies in the post-speech book signing
session - that 15 minute session, which I guess was my 15
minutes of fame, accounted for 2% of their total sales!

In terms of revenue I now get the same from selling 400 books as
I used to get from the publishers selling 5000!

Ultimately it all comes down to sales. You have to do the sums
to work out which method is going to be the best for you. But
having done this you may find you have little choice. You may be
completely unable to find an established agent or publisher and
you may also have difficulty interesting any web designers and
internet marketers in becoming involved in your project other
than on a fee paying basis - and that could cost a fortune.

>From here on in I am going to assume that you have decided to
enter the publishing business. Your first decision is whether to
go with a hard copy of your book or whether to stick with an
e-book - by which I mean a book which is sold in electronic
form. E-books are cheaper and sell well - my first book is
called THE WAY TO TRADE and we have sold more in e-book form
than in hard copy form. If you want to see the web site simply
enter THE WAY TO TRADE in the Google search engine.

In fact that book is the biggest selling trading e-book in the
history of Clickbank.com! Of course you may never have heard of
ClickBank.com but it is the biggest seller of e-books in the US
and thereby the world. It would pay you to visit the site and
check out some of the titles. It should give you ideas of the
competition you face, what to write about and, most importantly,
how to sell your book.

Perhaps you don’t know how to build your website or how to
market it. Don’t worry I plan to follow up this short article
with further articles on those subjects and also talk more about
hard copy books.

Don’t Let Negative Feedback On Ebay Get You Down

Lots Of Web Resources

Remember the student in school who complained (or even cried)
because they only got a ninety-nine percent mark on an
assignment or test. Meanwhile, some of us were relieved (if not
ecstatic) to have merely passed.

I actually witnessed one case where the math student insisted
that he was not wrong. On rechecking the test, the teacher
realized the answer sheet was wrong and not the student. The
student got one hundred percent correct.

Realistically, however, most of us lesser mortals can’t expect
to get a perfect mark or score every time.

First of all, none of us are perfect. We all make mistakes.

Secondly, unlike math, some subjects are more subjective in
nature. In certain subjects, the answer to a question may not be
simply right or wrong. The teacher may have more latitude in how
your grades are calculated. The teacher may even (consciously or
subconsciously) increase or decrease your grade based on whether
they like you (or your attitude) or not.

Similarly, in business, you can’t please everybody all of the
time.

In eBay or other Internet auctions, you will not be able to
satisfy everyone. Even if you have one hundred percent positive
feedback on eBay now, eventually it must fall.

Not all of your customers will be happy with you all of the
time. You might make a mistake resulting in an unhappy customer.
Sometimes factors beyond your control (such as a lost shipment)
may result in a negative feedback.

Occasionally, you might even get a customer who is unreasonable.
If he leaves you negative feedback, sometimes all you can do is
leave a negative feedback in return. This is not so much as an
act of retaliation; it is more a matter of presenting your side
of the story.

Sometimes, a customer has a legitimate complaint. Other times
the customer has jumped the gun and hasn’t given you a fair
chance to resolve matters. It is even possible that your
customer is a sadist who takes delight in tormenting others.

Regardless, you can make the offer to mutually agree to withdraw
negative feedback from each other.

If you both agree and follow eBay’s procedure, the negative
feedback will be removed from both of your total scores (thus
improving both feedback ratings). The negative comments
themselves won’t be removed by eBay but neither will your
response to defend yourself.

Even if this tactic to remove negative feedback is not
successful, at least you tried. Don’t let your pride stand in
the way of trying to make peace with the customer and reversing
any negative feedback.

If the customer won’t agree, at least you’ve told your side of
the story. Let your prospective customers decide if they want to
do business with you or not.

I personally like it when I see an eBay seller with a perfect
feedback rating. Realistically, however, I realize that you
simply can’t please everyone. Even if you did everything
perfectly, there are still people who are just not reasonable.

Thus, even if a seller has some negative feedback, if the
overwwhelming majority are pleased with him, I tend to discount
the few dissidents. I suggest you do the same in evaluating
others as well as yourself.

Tips on Creating a Site Map

Lots Of Web Resources

A quick search on Google for advice on creating a site map
initially threw up many links to software you could buy or
download for free to create a site map.

But why do you need a site map?

Basically as websites get larger and more complex both the human
browser and the search engine spiders need an easy to follow map
to find all the pages within your site. A site map gives them a
simple navigational tool.

Site maps have 3 main benefits:

1) A site map allows visitors to easily find what they are
looking for by simply visiting your site map and clicking on the
link to go directly to the page they want to visit.

2) Often technologies employed to assist in reading webpages
such as web page readers and screen readers can only follow text
links. For practical reasons it may not always be possible to
show a text link to every other page within your site on your
main page and other pages within your website and so use a site
map.

3) Search engine spiders like text and text links. If they
cannot follow a text link to a page of your site it may not get
indexed. Make it easy for the spider to index all your pages
through a site map.

A site map consists of the two things search engines love - text
and keywords. To build a good site map combine relevant keywords
with a hyper text links. For example on your site map you may
have a link to your webpage about website promotion so your
hyperlink should contains the words ‘website promotion’ and link
directly to that page within your site.

A site map does not need and indeed should not be fancy, but
should be clear and easy to navigate.

Here are some tips for a good site map:

1. Place a prominent link to your site map on every page and
lable it SITE MAP.

2. It should show all your webpages through different levels as
basic text links.

3. Use standard colours for links and visited links.

4. It should show a quick, easy to follow over view of the site
without the need to scroll around in the web browser.

Google started allowing people to submit site maps to their
account as a way of letting google know about all your webpages
and updates to your site. It does not increase your page ranking
at all but is worth taking the time to set up properly.

You can find free software for creating site maps at:

http://www.likno.com/sit
emap.html

http://www.freesitema
pgenerator.com/

http://www.sitemapspal.com/ >

And when you are done, don’t forget to tell Google about your
site map so they can trawl and hopefully index all the pages of
your site.

http://www
.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login

A well planned site map can ensure your Web site is fully
indexed by search engines.
